• The Boutique is a family owned women's clothing store located in Stowe, Vermont. We absolutely love what we do. We search out the most unique, well priced clothing available. My mom Trudy, sister Erin and want-to-be sister Jessica, have been operating the store and purchasing our fashions since we opened. We believe that shopping should be affordable, that you can look fabulous and feel amazing in the right clothing. We love to help our Boutique community shop!  People think that we have too much fun here sometimes; and we do!  Our customers are more like our friends than customers.

• What do you get when you blend a love for country life, antiques and close-knit family?

In the case of Stowe Mercantile founder Marc Sherman, you get a vision for a business that becomes a passion crossing generations. In the late 1980’s, supported by a group of friends, Marc put aside his passion for dairy farming and his career as a landscape photographer and opened his first store on Main Street – a 1,000 square foot collection of Vermont fine arts and crafts. The store’s success rapidly warranted an expansion that became Stowe Mercantile.Within a few years, Marc had grown his company to five distinct stores in the resort village of Stowe – including one that specialized in hand-crafted reproduction Colonial-style furniture. The beginning of the family business was off and running.

• Forget your expectations of what a general store should be like.  We aim to be just as eclectic as the Vermonters are who make up this great state.  Skiing didn’t exist when Howard E. Shaw founded this store in 1895.  As the fifth generation of the family following in his footsteps, we often wonder what my Great-Great Grandfather would think of the store if he saw it today.  We may not sell the wood stoves he sold back then, but we still have the original floors he walked on and the countertop he stood behind day in and day out.  Here at Shaw’s we are committed to ensure you will never find a shopping experience anywhere else quite like this.
