We sat down with Steve, Emma, and Michael from Umiak to hear about the gear they offer in-store and the adventure tours they offer outdoors.
Umiak Outfitters, located on 849 S Main St. in Stowe, has been known for its summer inventory and kayak rentals, but they also offer activities for all seasons. With all of the fresh new snow, now is the time to get started on your next winter activity.
Umiaks winter rental equipment is available every day, specializing in both backcountry and cross country skiing. This team of specialists will have you geared up properly and ready to hit the trails. With gear options such as k2, Scott, Fischer, Black Diamond, and G3, they aim to cater to your specific needs. For those that are not interested in skiing, Umiak also offers a great selection of other rentals such as snowshoes, ice skates, sleds, and other equipment accessories.
The Umiak staff is made up of some of New England’s top-trained and respected outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you are first being introduced to these activities and need advice or if you need direction on where to find fresh powder, they are there to support you. Through these tours, the team has been able to introduce guests to memorable destinations in Northern Vermont. Other unique tours include dogsledding, nordic and backcountry skiing, sledding, and snowshoeing.
Umiak tours constantly give back to the community in various ways. Each year, they donate rental packages to local auctions and raffles. They also help support other businesses in the community by incorporating local services or products within Umiak’s winter adventure tours. Some of these collaborations include Cold Hollow Cider Mill, Cabot Cheese, and The Vermont House Jerky Co, to name a few.
The staff at Umiak strives to keep their tours as COVID-friendly as possible. They want to keep their customers and the community safe this winter. Some of their protocols include spraying, wiping down, and sanitizing all of their equipment. They are currently also only offering private parties to follow proper social distancing measures.
